Austin, Texas - December 14, 2007 - The Wi-Fi Alliance has named Edgar Figueroa as its new Executive Director. For thepast several years, Mr Figueroa has led the operations for the Alliance's certification program, Wi-FiCERTIFIED, which has grown to include a global network of labs and more than4000 certified products.
"We are very pleased to be able to name Edgar as our newExecutive Director. He brings significant experience in the industry and theWi-Fi Alliance, and a record of delivering key programs for the organization.In his new role, he will work with the Wi-Fi Alliance Board of Directors andmembers to develop and deliver strategies for industry success," said Andrew Myles, Wi-Fi Alliance Chairman.
"There are more than 350 million Wi-Fi users and theproliferation continues with its wide acceptance in an increasing variety ofconsumer electronics and with the advent of 802.11n technology," said Figueroa. "I look forward to working with the Wi-Fi Alliance and its members as weenter a new phase of our growth, in new markets and in new geographies."
Mr. Figueroa was instrumental in establishing the Alliance headquarters in Austin,Texas, and the research and development lab inSanta Clara, CA. He succeeds Frank Hanzlik, the Wi-Fi Alliance Managing Director between2004 and 2007.
Mr. Figueroa is a graduate of the University of Texasat Austin, and holdsa Masters in Technology Commercialization and undergraduate degrees inMechanical Engineering and Mathematics. Heserved four years in the United States Navy.
