Wi-Fi Alliance® prides itself on being a diverse organization, with member companies spanning the world, and representatives from a range of cultures and backgrounds. For 16 years, Wi-Fi Alliance has brought together companies with various interests and successfully achieved results through collaboration. The type of success Wi-Fi Alliance has seen is only achievable when organizations embrace diversity, allowing the best ideas and the best talents to flourish.

Wi-Fi Alliance diversity is also reflected in our Board of Directors and in our executive team. Diversity among our leadership has not gone unnoticed either, and we are honored that our president and CEO, Edgar Figueroa has been selected as one of the 2015 Most Influential Minorities in Cable. The award recognizes the top minority executives in the cable industry based on their influence, power and reach. The award is not only a testament to the impact Edgar has had on the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ program, but also the influence Wi-Fi Alliance has had under his leadership.

Edgar’s personal story is one of hard work, seizing opportunities, and maintaining a commitment to success. Edgar was born in Guatemala City, and moved to the United States at the age of 14. From humble beginnings, he become the first person in his family to graduate from college, and eventually went on to lead one of the most successful industry trade associations at the center of today’s connected world.

As a result of Edgar’s unique background, he has enabled Wi-Fi Alliance to embody a true culture of collaboration, propelling hundreds of companies to work together to develop certification programs and technologies that have led to an unprecedented period of growth for Wi-Fi®. In the past 12 months alone, Wi-Fi Alliance has launched a new certification program called Wi-Fi Aware, announced significant enhancements to its Passpoint and Wi-Fi Direct certification programs, witnessed the shipment of the world’s 10 billionth Wi-Fi-device, and become a forum where industry stakeholders can collaborate regarding unlicensed spectrum initiatives.

Wi-Fi Alliance is committed to continuing to proliferate Wi-Fi around the world. Along with our diverse leadership and member companies, Wi-Fi Alliance continues to diversify our technology portfolio to keep pace with consumer and industry demand for connectivity. We’re excited about Wi-Fi’s future in telecommunications, Smart Home, automotive, and the Internet of Things. We are committed to navigating these diverse industry segments and enabling Wi-Fi to continue to play a pivotal role in new and emerging markets.

Congratulations, Edgar!
